The Film

A journey that still guides us

As Sanatana Dharma is overridden by opposing thoughts and pushed to the brink of collapse, Lord Shiva answers the desperate call of the Devas, incarnating as Adi Shankaracharya: a divine prodigy whose life becomes a breathtaking odyssey across India, uniting fractured faiths through devotion, fearless debate and boundless love.

Based on

Sankara Digvijaya

by Madhava Vidyaranya

The script follows the most revered classical narrative of Shankara's life, traditionally dated to the fourteenth century in the Advaita Vedanta tradition.

Adi Shankaracharya was born in the small village of Kalady in Kerala. His energy and aura were evident from the age of three, when he had already read and studied the Vedas.

At six he took sannyasa and left home to find his Guru, Govinda Bhagavatpada. After finding him at the age of eight, he spent the next few years in his Guru's hermitage: learning, writing commentaries on the holy scriptures and, in time, teaching young disciples.

In his early teens his Guru sent him across the country to establish the teachings of Advaita Vedanta through preaching, writing and debates with renowned scholars.

The story chronicles his father's passing, his mother's blessing to become a sannyasi, his search for his Guru and his training under him, his teaching across the holy city of Varanasi, a divine task from Lord Shiva and Veda Vyasa, and his legendary debate with Mandana Misra.

The film is designed as a grand adventure through the many facets of Sanatana Dharma, reawakening the spirit of the Bhakti movement in cinema.

From the Director

Stories that awaken humanity

At thirty-three, in the middle of a global pandemic, I found myself asking what had become of my life. Years spent chasing career, success and validation had left me depleted, a shell of the child I once was, far from the faith my mother had given me.

What followed was a flow of grace. Chance encounters led me to the feet of Mahavatar Babaji, who directed me to my Gurudeva, Paramhansa Yogananda, and to the path of Kriya Yoga. Slowly he guided me to one conviction: that life is meaningless unless it is lived in service of others, and ultimately of God.

When I asked how I could serve, the answer came after months of meditation:

“Will you not share our stories with the souls who are seeking light amongst the darkness?”

So began a mission: The Great Saints of Bharat. And the first amongst them, Jagatguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya.
